Victim Response Team
In 1997, ACCORD received funding from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice System and formed the Victim Response Team. This is a team comprised of local law enforcement agencies and health and human service providers committed to strengthening local response to domestic violence and holding batters accountable for the crimes which they commit. One way that batterers are held accountable and victims receive a community response is through the Law Enforcement Protocol which was developed and implemented by the Victim Response Team with the assistance of local law enforcement agencies.
The mission of the Victim Response Team is to have a coordinated response to domestic violence in Allegany County. This is achieved through team members coming together monthly to discuss incidents of domestic violence and provide education on domestic violence to area partners with concentration on the prosecution of offenders. The Victim Response Team targets domestic violence incidents and is specifically dedicated toward preventing, identifying, and responding to violent crimes against women and the elderly population. Regularly, the Victim Response Team coordinates trainings for magistrates and law enforcement to provide education on topics related to domestic violence.
The current Allegany County Victim Response Team is made up of a very dedicated group of representatives from the New York State Police, the Wellsville Police Department, the Department of Social Services, the District Attorney’s Office, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, ACT Batters Program and Allegany County Probation. ACCORD Corporation would like to thank each of these organizations for the hard work and dedication they provide each and every day towards the prevention of domestic violence in Allegany County.
